Independence Academy, (formerly, Independence Montessori Academy) is a private, non-parochial school serving toddlers through kindergartners by virtue of the Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies. As Maria Montessori herself said, “Little children, from the moment they are weaned, are making their way toward independence.” So too, has Independence sought the children of the Western Harnett communities, to guide them and foster their innate curiosity and drive toward knowledge and mastery of their universe. Founded in the fall of 2015, Independence has blossomed since then to become a staple in the lives of the Western Harnett County community. The transition to encompass a Reggio inspired curriculum took place Summer of 2020. The ultimate vision was to create a warm, inviting, engaging and bountiful environment for children where they could safely explore, grow their social/emotional skills, and become life long learners. Our Founder has a dedication and commitment to deliver an incredible Montessori and Reggio inspired environment to foster each child’s love of learning and a vision to create a fully child-centered learning environment that supports not only the whole child, but also his or her family. Independence serves about 98% military families and we know, personally, the challenges that the military lifestyle entails. Independence Academy is here to be your child’s venture, their creative space; it’s their place to own and invite their family to come be a part of. We know how important it is to have a piece of a military child’s life to call their own.
